CHRISTMAS TREE AND BELL COOKIES
1/4 c. butter or margarine
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. finely shredded lemon
3 c. all-purpose flour
green and red colored sugar
In a large mixing bowl beat butter, sugar and salt
until fluffy. Add egg, vanilla and shredded lemon. Beat well,
mixing at low speed gradually. Add flour to butter mixture.
Beat until thoroughly combined. Mixture will be crumbly; set
aside 1/4 cup dough. Divide remaining dough into 2 equal
parts. Shape each part into smooth rolls, 7 inches long. Roll
one into green sugar and the other in red sugar. Leave in
refrigerator for 2 hours or overnight. Remove and cut into
shapes with cookie cutters. Bake in preheated oven about 8 or
10 minutes at 350 degrees.
