CHOCOLATE BROWNIES

1 stick butter or margarine
2 sq. (oz.) baking chocolate
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. chopped nuts (if you
wish)
3/4 c. sifted enriched flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt

Preheat oven to moderate 350 degrees. Melt butter and choco-
late in a saucepan over very low heat on top of a range.
Remove from the heat and add the sugar. Add one unbeaten egg;
mix well with a fork, then add other egg and mix until all of
the egg is combined. Add vanilla and chopped nuts (if de-
sired). Sift together flour, baking powder and salt on a piece
of waxed paper. Add flour mixture and mix thoroughly. Pour
into baking pan. Bake 25 to 30 minutes, then cool.
