CREAM OF TOMATO SOUP
(Very Old Recipe)
2 c. milk
2 c. canned tomatoes
4 Tbsp. flour
4 Tbsp. butter
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
1/2 bay leaf
1 Tbsp. chopped onion
2 cloves

Melt 2 tablespoons butter; add 2 tablespoons flour and 1
teaspoon salt. Add milk gradually and cook until slightly
thickened. Combine tomatoes, 1/2 teaspoon salt, pepper, bay
leaf, onion and cloves. Simmer 10 minutes. Thicken with 2
tablespoons butter and 2 tablespoons flour blended together.
Strain and add white sauce (below).
In top part of double boiler melt 3 tablespoons butter
and add 4 tablespoons flour, 1/4 teaspoon salt, dash of pepper
and 1 cup milk and cook 20 to 25 minutes.
