HAMBURGER CHOWDER

1/2 to 1 lb. ground chuck or
ground turkey
1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
4 medium carrots, sliced
(2 c.)
1 large onion, chopped (1 c.)
2 c. chopped celery
1 small cabbage (2 lb.),
chopped
1/2 green pepper, chopped (1/2
c.)
2 cans (1 lb.) tomatoes,
broken up
5 c. water
3 beef bouillon cubes
1/2 c. uncooked long grain
rice
3 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper
1 bay leaf

Saute meat in hot oil in a Dutch oven until brown. Add
remaining ingredients. Bring to boiling. Lower heat, cover
and simmer 45 minutes until vegetables are tender. Remove bay
leaf before serving.
