BEAN SOUP

1 pkg. Great Northern beans
3 large onions, finely chopped
1 small bay leaf
1 clove garlic, chopped
1 Tbsp. sugar
2 Tbsp. parsley chopped
1/4 tsp. thyme
1 ham bone
1 Tbsp. salt

Wash and soak beans overnight. Add other ingredients.
Cover with water; cook, covered, slowly until tender. Remove
bone, bay leaf and meat. Remove about 2 cups beans with
liquid. Puree. Return to pot with one cup water. Cut ham in
small pieces; return to soup. May be cooked in slow cooker.
Do not add water to puree if you use this method.
