LAYERED SALAD 1/2 head lettuce, sliced thin 1/2 head cauliflower or red cabbage, sliced thin 1/2 medium onion, chopped fine 1/2 lb. bacon, fried crisp and crumbled 1/4 c. Parmesan cheese 1 c. green pepper, chopped 1 c. mayonnaise 1/4 c. sugar Layer ingredients in large bowl in order: lettuce, cauliflower or red cabbage, onion, bacon, Parmesan cheese, green pepper, mayonnaise and sugar. Chill 4 to 6 hours. Toss just before serving. There are many variations of this salad. You can use vegetables of your own choice. Many add 1 (10 ounce) package frozen peas, separated but not thawed, and also add hard-boiled eggs that have been diced.
