MEATBALL SOUP

5 c. beef broth
1 onion, diced
4 carrots, chopped
5 ribs celery, chopped
1 (16 oz.) can tomato sauce
1 (32 oz.) can whole tomatoes
1/4 tsp. oregano
1/4 tsp. chili powder
1/4 c. dried parsley flakes
1 c. shredded cabbage
1 lb. hamburger
1 egg, beaten
1/4 c. rice (raw)
1/2 tsp. chili powder
pepper to taste

Bring broth, onion, carrots and celery to a boil. Add
tomato sauce, tomatoes, seasonings and parsley. Cook 30
minutes. Add cabbage and cook 10 minutes more. Prepare
meatball mixture while soup cooks. Mix hamburger, egg, rice,
1/2 teaspoon chili powder and pepper until well blended. Form
into 1/2-inch balls. Drop into soup and simmer 45 minutes.
