LAYERED SALAD 1 large head lettuce, break in small pieces 1/2 bunch scallions, cut in fine pieces 3/4 c. chopped celery 1 can sliced water chestnuts, drain well 10 oz. box frozen peas* 2 c. mayonnaise 3 Tbsp. sugar Romano or Parmesan cheese 1 bottle of Hormel 100% Real Bacon Bits or broil 1 lb. of bacon until crisp, drain, cool and crumble *Do not thaw; separate and sprinkle. Use large bowl with fairly straight sides; make in layers. Do not toss; layer in the following order: One large head lettuce (broken in small pieces), scallions (cut in fine pieces), chopped celery, sliced water chestnuts (drained well), frozen peas (do not thaw, separate and sprinkle), mayonnaise (spread over like icing in even layer), sugar (sprinkled evenly over mayo) and Romano or Parmesan cheese (sprinkled generously to cover mayo). Before serving; sprinkle bacon bits or bacon over top of salad and toss well. Serves 12. Prepare at least 12 hours in advance.
