BIG MIKE'S BATTER FRY

bowl of buttermilk
flour
1 c. commercial bread crumbs
3/4 c. flour
oregano, pepper, salt
1 egg
1/4 c. oil
shortening/grease
either: 1/2 mushrooms, 1/2
okra, zucchini slices,
cauliflower, oysters, onion
rings, etc.

Soak items in a bowl of buttermilk. Shake in flour.
Mix crumbs with 3/4 cup flour, season with oregano, pepper and
salt. Mix egg and oil and thin with buttermilk until it has
the consistency of thin gravy. Heat grease until hot. Place
item in batter, shake off and drop in hot grease for about 4 to
5 minutes. As batter thickens, pour buttermilk in to thin.
The results are terrific.
