BROCCOLI-ONION DELUXE CASSEROLE

1 lb. broccoli or 2 (10 oz.)
pkg. frozen cut broccoli
2 c. frozen small whole onions
or 3 medium onions,
quartered
1/4 c. margarine
2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. milk
1 (3 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
1/2 c. shredded American
cheese
1 c. soft bread crumbs

Cut up fresh broccoli and cook (or cook frozen broccoli
according to package directions). Drain. Cook frozen or fresh
onions in boiling salted water until tender. Drain. In
saucepan, melt half of margarine. Blend in flour, salt and
dash of pepper. Add milk. Cook, stirring constantly, until
thickened and bubbly. Reduce heat; blend in cream cheese
until smooth. Place vegetables in a 1 1/2 quart casserole.
Pour sauce mixture over and mix lightly. Top with American
cheese. Melt the remaining margarine; toss with bread crumbs.
Sprinkle atop casserole. Bake at 350 degrees until heated through, 40
to 45 minutes.
