CHERRY NUT BREAD

2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 c. sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
12 chopped maraschino cherries
3/4 c. chopped nuts
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 c. milk
1/4 c. maraschino cherry juice

Sift dry ingredients together into bowl; cut in shorten-
ing. Stir in cherries and nuts. Combine liquid ingredients.
Add liquid ingredients to dry ingredients. Stir only until all
flour is moistened. Pour into greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 60 to 70 minutes. Cool on rack.
