DATE NUT BREAD

1 pkg. dates, chopped
1 tsp. soda
1 Tbsp. butter
1 scant c. sugar
1 c. boiling water
1 egg, beaten
1 1/2 c. flour
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. nuts

Combine dates, soda, butter and sugar. Pour hot water
over mixture and let stand until cool. Then add rest of
ingredients. Pour mix into greased tins with tins only half
full and bake about 45 to 50 minutes in 375 degrees oven.
