HUSH PUPPIES 1 c. flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. soda 1/2 c. chopped onions 1/2 c. melted butter or shortening 3/4 c. water 2 c. yellow corn meal 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. sugar 1/2 c. buttermilk Sift together corn meal, flour, baking powder, soda, salt and sugar. Place in a bowl, add onions, water and butter- milk. Mix well. Add butter and egg. Blend. Drop by small tablespoon into deep fat at 370 degrees. Cook until golden brown. Makes about 30.
