2 1/4 c. self-rising flour
1 Tbsp. sugar
1/2 c. butter-flavored
1 egg, beaten
2/3 c. milk
1 Tbsp. butter, melted
Combine flour and sugar; mix well. Cut in shortening
with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal.
Combine egg and milk; add to flour mixture, stirring just until
dry ingredients are moistened. Turn dough out onto a floured
surface and knead 3 or 4 times.
Roll dough to 1/2 inch thickness; cut with 2 1/2-inch
biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet.
Bake at 450 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden. Remove from
oven; brush with melted butter. Yield: 12 biscuits.
