SYRUP BREAD 2 1/4 c. sifted all-purpose flour 1 c. sugar 1 tsp. ginger 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 c. soft shortening 1 egg, beaten 1/4 c. molasses 1 c. buttermilk 1 tsp. soda 1/4 tsp. salt Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour pan. Stir flour, sugar and spices together. Cut in shortening to size of peas. Save 1/2 cup for topping in another bowl. Mix eggs, molasses, buttermilk, soda and salt. Add to dry mixture. Stir only until flour is dampened. Mixture will be lumpy. Pour into pan. Sprinkle the crumb mixture over top. Bake 30 to 35 minutes.
