DOUGHNUTS

2 yeast cakes
pt. lukewarm water
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 tsp. salt
2 eggs
5 c. flour

Glaze:
1 box powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. water

Mix well all glaze ingredients.
Dissolve yeast cakes in a pint of lukewarm water; set
aside. Mix together sugar, shortening, salt and eggs. Then
add flour, water and yeast mixture; mix well. Put on floured
board and mix enough flour to make light dough. Knead until
smooth, allow to set 45 minutes in a warm place until light.
Punch down and let rise again 30 minutes. Roll out and cut the
doughnuts out. Fry, drain, dip in glaze while hot.
