ICEBOX PASTRY

1/2 lb. butter or margarine
1 Tbsp. sugar
1/2 c. milk
2 c. flour
1 pkg. yeast
3 eggs, separated
1/2 tsp. salt

Filling:
3/4 c. sugar
raisins and nuts or pie apples
or other filling

Cream margarine with tablespoon of sugar; add well
beaten egg yolks. Dissolve yeast in a little of the milk and
add to butter mixture. Sift flour and add salt. Mix in flour
and remainder of milk alternately. Chill batter for at least
12 hours.
Cut dough into 2 pieces. Roll each to 1/2-inch thick-
ness on 2 ungreased cookie sheets. Beat egg whites stiffly
with the 3/4 cup sugar. Spread meringue over the sheets of
dough. Sprinkle with filling and roll like a jellyroll. Bake
in 350 degrees oven for 1/2 hour.
