HUSH PUPPIES

1 c. cornmeal
1/2 c. all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. garlic salt
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. minced onion
1 green onion with top, finely
chopped
1 egg, beaten
1 c. milk
vegetable oil

Combine cornmeal, flour, baking powder, garlic salt and
salt in a mixing bowl. Add remaining ingredients; stir well.
Let batter stand 5 minutes. Carefully drop batter by level
tablespoonful into deep, hot oil (370 degrees). Cook only a few at a
time, turning once. Fry 3 to 5 minutes or until hush puppies
are golden brown. Drain well on paper towels. Yield: about 2
dozen.
