APPLE DANISH

3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. vegetable shortening
1/2 c. milk
1 egg yolk, beaten

Filling:
6 pared and sliced apples
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 Tbsp. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 c. butter
1 egg white, slightly beaten

To make the crust: Mix flour and salt; cut in shorten-
ing. Combine milk and egg yolk. Add to flour mixture. Roll
out half the dough on a floured surface to fit an 11 x 6-inch
jellyroll pan. Place dough in pan.
To make filling: Arrange apples on crust. Combine
sugar, flour and cinnamon; sprinkle over apples. Dot with
butter. Roll out remaining pastry. Place over apples. Brush
pastry with egg whites. Bake 45 minutes in a 375 degrees oven. If
desired, add a powdered sugar glaze.
