ENGLISH SCONES 8 oz. flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/4 tsp. baking powder 1 1/2 oz. shortening 1 oz. sugar milk to make soft dough 2 Tbsp. currants or raisins 1 egg, beaten (put aside 1 teaspoon to brush on top of scones) Mix flour, salt, baking soda and powder in a bowl; rub in shortening. Mix in sugar and fruit. Stir in beaten egg and enough milk to make a soft dough. Roll out to 1/2 inch thick- ness and cut in rounds with 2 1/2 inch cutter. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes.
