IRISH SODA BREAD

4 c. flour
1/3 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 stick oleo
1 c. seedless raisins
1 egg, beaten with 1 1/2 c.
buttermilk

Sift together flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder
and salt. Work in with fingers oleo. Add raisins. Make hole
in center and pour in all at once egg with buttermilk. Stir
until flour is moistened. Turn onto a floured board and knead
until smooth for 1 minute. Shape into a ball and place in
heavy skillet. Cut a cross 1/4 inch deep with sharp knife
across top. Bake at 375 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes. Brush with
melted butter and cool on rack.
