CARAMELITAS

1 c. and 3 Tbsp. flour
1 c. quick rolled oats
3/4 c. brown sugar, packed
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 c. butter, melted
1 c. chocolate chips
1/2 c. chopped nuts
3/4 c. caramel ice cream
topping

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a bowl combine 1 cup flour,
oats, brown sugar, baking soda, salt and butter until crumbly.
Press half of the mixture in bottom of 9-inch square pan that
has been very well greased (sides and bottom) and floured.
Bake 10 minutes. Remove from oven. Over the top sprinkle
chocolate chips and nuts. Mix together ice cream topping and
remaining flour and drizzle it over the chocolate and nuts.
Sprinkle the remaining crumbs over the top. Bake 15 to 20
minutes. Remove from oven and cool thoroughly. Chilling is
suggested. Cut into squares. This is best made 24 to 36 hours
ahead of time. It can be difficult to lift from pan if sides
are not well greased. But they are worth the effort.
