ORANGE CANDY CAKE

1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
4 c. plain flour
1 tsp. soda
4 eggs
2 c. chopped nuts
1 1/3 c. buttermilk
1 lb. chopped dates
1 lb. orange slice candy
pinch of salt

Melt butter and cream sugar, adding eggs, one at a time.
Then add 1 cup buttermilk, adding the soda to the remaining
buttermilk. Add to creamed mixture. Then add flour, salt,
chopped nuts, dates and candy which have been well floured.
Mix well. Bake in tube pan which has been well greased for 3
hours at 275 degrees.

Icing:
2 small cans frozen orange
juice
3 c. light brown sugar
Pour over hot cake. Leave in pan until cool.
