BUTTER CREAM ICING

1 c. shortening
5 c. powdered sugar
5 to 7 Tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
pinch of salt

Cream shortening. Add sugar and milk alternately, 1
tablespoon milk to 1 cup powdered sugar, mixing well. Add
remaining ingredients and continue to mix until creamy.
(For stiff icing, use least amount of milk. Add more
milk, if thinner icing is desired.)
