BEEF STEW

2 lb. stew beef, cut in 1-inch
cubes
1/2 tsp. salt
1 pkg. (1 1/2 oz.) brown gravy
mix with mushrooms
3 stalks celery, cut in 1-inch
slices
3 medium carrots, peeled and
sliced
3 medium potatoes, peeled and
cut in eights

Put beef cubes in a 3-quart microproof casserole or
baking dish. Sprinkle with salt. Combine gravy mix with 1 cup
water. Stir. Pour over meat. Cover and cook on 10 for 5
minutes. Stir. Cover and cook on 6 (Bake) for 20 minutes.
Add celery, carrots and potatoes; stir lightly so that vegeta-
bles are covered with gravy. Add more water for a thinner
gravy and salt for the vegetables. Cover and cook on 5 (Sim-
mer) for 30 to 35 minutes or until vegetables and meat are
tender. Remove and let stand 5 minutes.
