1 1/2 c. self-rising flour 1 1/2 c. graham cracker crumbs 1 c. firmly packed brown sugar 3/4 c. butter or margarine 8 slices American or Cheddar cheese (8 oz.) 1 can (1 lb. 4 oz.) pie sliced apples, drained or 2 1/2 c. (3 medium) peeled and sliced cooking apples sweetened with 3/4 c. sugar In large mixing bowl, combine flour with cracker crumbs and brown sugar. Cut in butter until crumbly; reserve 1 1/2 cups remaining crumbs into an ungreased 13 x 9-inch baking pan. Place cheese slices over crumbs. Spoon apples evenly over cheese slices. Sprinkle with reserved crumb mixture and nuts. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes until deep golden brown. Serve warm.
