1 to 2 onions several garlic cloves, chopped sprinkle of sugar sprig of fresh thyme leaves (take leaves from the stem) 1 loaf crusty bread Sauté the onions in butter. Add garlic cloves. Add sugar; this helps caramelize the onions. Add thyme leaves. Cut bread in half, either round or shape you like. Put under broiler. After bread is broiled and onions nicely caramelized, put the onions on top of the cut sides of bread. Cover with Parmesan cheese. Sprinkle with black pepper and pop under the broiler again until cheese has melted. Cut and serve.
