1 c. Crisco or butter 2 c. sugar 4 eggs 3 1/4 c. flour, sifted 1/2 to 1 tsp. soda 1 tsp. salt 1/2 c. buttermilk 1 bag orange slices, cut up 2 c. pecans,chopped 1/2 to 1 lb. pitted dates, chopped 1 can coconut Mix Crisco and sugar. Add eggs, 1 at a time. Sift flour, soda, and salt together. Add buttermilk gradually to egg mixture, alternating with flour mixture until all milk and flour have been used. Mix in orange slices, pecans, dates, and coconut. Pour into tube pan. Bake at 350 for 1 hour and 45 minutes. Glaze 1/2 c. orange juice 1/2 box confectioner's sugar Combine ingredients; spread on cake while still hot. Leave in pan until cool. A late friend used to give me one of these cakes every Christmas.
