1 c. sugar
1/3 c. cocoa
1/2 c. evaporated milk, fluid milk, or water
1/2 stick butter
1 tsp. vanilla
Mix sugar and cocoa. Stir in milk or water. Cook until desired
consistency, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Add butter
and vanilla; DO NOT STIR. Let stand until butter melts. Beat by
hand until glossy. Pour slowly over cooled cake, allowing it to
drip down sides of cake.
If you cook this mixture until it forms a hard ball in a cup of cold
water, you will have chocolate fudge instead of hot fudge sauce.
