1/2 cup all-purpose flour 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 cup butter or margarine 7 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons water 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese Combine flour, sugar, and salt; mix well. Cut in butter with pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Toss apples with water and lemon juice. Spoon into a lightly greased 8-inch square baking dish. Sprinkle flour mixture over apples. Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 35 minutes. Top with cheese; bake an additional 5 minutes. Yield: 8 servings.
