4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, divided 3 tablespoons sugar 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 2 packages dry yeast 1 1/4 cups buttermilk 1/2 cup water 1/2 cup butter or margarine Melted butter or margarine Combine 1 1/2 cups flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and yeast in a large mixing bowl; set aside. Combine buttermilk, water, and 1/2 cup butter in a small saucepan; heat to 120 degrees-130 degrees. Stir well, and add to flour mixture. Beat at medium speed of an electric mixer for 4 minutes. Gradually add remaining flour, mixing well. Turn dough out onto a floured surface, and knead 5-8 minutes or until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, turning to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place, (85 degrees), free from drafts, about 30 minutes or until doubled in bulk. Punch down dough and shape into 1 1/2-inch balls. Place on greased cookie sheets; cover and let rise in a warm place, (85 degrees), free from drafts, 30 minutes or until doubled in bulk. Bake at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes.
