2 Tbsp. olive oil
4-16 oz. cans tomato puree
1-16 oz. can tomato sauce
2 1/2 tsp. dried basil
2 1/2 tsp. dried oregano
2 tsp. salt
1/2 to 3/4 tsp. pepper
1/4 to 1/3 c. sugar
6-8 garlic cloves, minced or pressed
2 or 3 dried parsley flakes
1/2 lg. onion pureed in food processor
4 Tbsp. balsamic vinegar or red wine (optional)
2 Tbsp. fennel seeds (optional)
1 lb hamburger (optional)
Cook hamburger, onion and 1/2 of the minced garlic until
hamburger is done and onion is transparent. Meanwhile, cook rest
of garlic in olive oil. Add rest of ingredients & simmer for 10-15
minutes. Then add cooked meat (if desired) and adjust seasonings,
(salt, pepper, etc.)
