BAKLAWA

Filling:
2 lbs. walnuts, coarsely ground
3/4 cup sugar
2 Tbsp. orange blossom water
2 Tbsp. rendered butter

Combine filling ingredients and mix well.

Filo Preparation:
1 round 15" tray or 12"X 17" rectangular
2 lbs. filo dough
3 cups melted rendered butter

NOTE: While using, keep dough covered with damp cloth or
plastic, to prevent from drying.

Butter baking pan thoroughly. For bottom layer, use one pound
of filo dough. Brush melted butter between each sheet in baking
pan. Do not butter top sheet. Spread filling evenly over the last
sheet of first pound of dough. Add remaining filo dough, brushing
melted butter between each sheet. When layer is complete, cut in
diamond shapes before baking. Pour remaining melted butter over
Baklawa. Bake in preheated 400 degrees F oven for 15 minutes then reduce
heat to 325 degrees F oven for 45 minutes.

Syrup:
2 1/2 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups water
1/2 tsp. lemon juice
1 tsp. orange blossom water

Mix sugar and water and boil over medium heat for 10 to 15 minutes.
Add lemon juice and orange blossom water before removing from heat.
Let syrup stand for 10 minutes. Pour syrup evenly over cold,
baked Baklawa.
