Fingers: 4 1/2 cups flour 1/3 cup sugar 1 tsp. salt 2 tsp. ground anise seed 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 cup vegetable oil 3/4 cup water (or a little more) Sift dry ingredients in large bowl. Add oil to dry ingredients and mix well. Rub between hands until mixture is in coarse pieces. Add water and mix like pie crust dough. Roll out small pieces of dough to 1/8 inch thick. Fill with 1/2 teaspoon of filling mixture and roll into finger shape. Bake on cookie sheet for 20 minutes at 400 degrees F oven or until light brown in color. After baking, dip in syrup. Yields about 50 pieces. Filling: 2 cup chopped walnuts 2-3 Tbsp. sugar Mix ingredients together. Use as directed. Syrup: 2 cups sugar 1 cup water 1/2 tsp. orange blossom water 1 tsp. lemon juice Dissolve sugar in water and cook for 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat and add lemon and orange blossom water.
