2 c. white sugar 1 c. shortening 2 eggs 2 tsp. vanilla 4 c. flour, sifted 1 Tbsp. salt 1 Tbsp. soda 1 c. buttermilk Cream first 2 ingredients together. Add eggs and vanilla. Add salt, soda, buttermilk and flour alternately. Drop from tablespoon to make large cookies. Bake at 400 degrees for about 10 minutes. Icing: 1/2 c. margarine 1/2 c. brown sugar 1/4 c. milk Add together and boil about 2 minutes. Let cool and add 1 tablespoon vanilla and about 1 pound of powdered sugar.
