1 c. chopped dates
1 c. boiling water
1 tsp. soda
1 c. white sugar
1/2 c. butter
1 3/4 c. flour
2 Tbsp. cocoa
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/3 c. chocolate bits
Pour boiling water with soda over dates and let stand until
the rest of the ingredients are mixed. Cream sugar, butter and egg
and mix with date mixture. Add flour, cocoa, salt and vanilla. Mix
well. Pour in 12 x 8-inch pan. Sprinkle brown sugar and chocolate
bits over top. Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes or just until done.
