1 c. butter, softened 1/2 c. shortening 3 c. sugar 5 eggs 3 c. cake flour 5 Tbsp. (heaping) baking cocoa 1 c. milk 2 tsp. vanilla extract 1/2 tsp. baking powder Cream butter, shortening and sugar in large mixer bowl until light and fluffy. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Sift flour, baking powder and cocoa together. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Stir in vanilla. Pour into greased and floured 10-inch tube pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 20 minutes. Cool in pan for several minutes. Invert onto serving plate. Spread frosting on cake after it is completely cool. Frosting for Chocolate Pound Cake: 3 oz. unsweetened chocolate 1/2 c. margarine, softened 3 Tbsp. milk 1 egg, beaten 1 (1 lb.) pkg. confectioners sugar 1 tsp. vanilla extract Bring chocolate, margarine and milk to a boil in medium saucepan, stirring constantly; remove from heat. Stir a small amount of hot mixture into beaten egg; stir egg whites into hot mixture. Add confectioners sugar and vanilla. Beat until smooth and of spreading consistency.
