3 1/2 c. red wine 1 3/4 c. port 1 c. sugar peel from 2 oranges 2 cinnamon sticks 10 cardamom pods 10 whole cloves 1 c. brandy or cognac 8 Tbsp. raisins 8 Tbsp. chopped almonds Warm wine and port with sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Tie orange peel and spices in a cheesecloth bag. Add to wine mixture and simmer for 20 minutes. Add brandy and simmer for another 5 minutes. Remove spice bag. Place 1 Tbsp. each of raisins and almonds in the bottom of drinking mugs. Add hot wine to mug. Serves 8.
