OATMEAL CAKE

1 c. oats
1 1/4 c. boiling water
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 c. brown sugar
2 beaten eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/3 c. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cloves

TOPPING:
2 c. oatmeal
1 tsp. vanilla
8 Tbsp. butter
2 c. brown sugar
1 can (12 oz.) evaporated milk

CAKE: Mix oats and boiling water together, let stand 20
minutes. Add butter, sugar, brown sugar, eggs and vanilla. Mix
well. Add flour, cinnamon, soda, salt and cloves. Mix well and
pour in 9 x 13 inch greased and floured pan. Bake at 350 degrees
for 30 to 35 minutes.

TOPPING: Stir together until coarse, spread on cake while
still hot. Put under broiler until topping is brown. Remove from
broiler and cool completely before serving.
