1 1/4 c. granulated sugar
1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
2/3 c. shortening
1 3/4 c. applesauce
2 3/4 c. (all-purpose) flour
1 3/4 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 3/4 tsp. salt
1 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 c. water
1 1/2 c. raisins or dates
1 1/2 c. chopped nuts
Cream sugars, shortening and eggs until light. Add
applesauce, and mix well. Spoon flour into bowl and blend in
spices and other dry ingredients. Add dry ingredients alternately
with water. Stir in fruit and nuts. Put in well greased 13 x 9
inch pan. Cool in pan. Frost when cool with icing of choice.
