1/2 c. shortening 1 1/2 c. brown sugar 1 egg 2 c. flour 1 tsp. soda 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. cloves 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 1 c. finely chopped unpared apples 1 c. chopped raisins or currants 1/4 c. apple juice or milk Cream shortening, brown sugar and egg. Add one half of the dry ingredients, chopped nuts, apples and raisins. Mix thoroughly. Blend in apple juice or milk. Add remaining flour mixture, mixing well. Drop by teaspoonful on greased baking sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 - 12 minutes. Spread with vanilla glaze while cookie are hot. VANILLA GLAZE: Powder sugar, vanilla, and water to make paste.
