HOMEMADE BISCUITS

4 c. self-rising flour
1 Tbsp. sugar
1 Tbsp. baking powder
3/4 c. vegetable shortening
2 c. buttermilk

Preheat oven at 400 degrees. In large mixing bowl, sift dry ingredients
together. Add shortening and work into dry ingredients with pastry
cutter or your hand. Add buttermilk and continue to work with your
hand. Mix until a large ball is formed. Flour hands and pinch off a
piece of dough and roll into ball. Place in a greased iron skillet
and press down with top of fingers. Bake until golden brown.

Optional: You can put dough on floured surface and knead; roll out
1/2 thick and cut with biscuit cutter.
