5 lb. self-rising flour 4 eggs 4 c. sugar 3/4 c. buttermilk 2 Tbsp. vanilla 1 c. shortening Mix eggs, sugar, buttermilk, vanilla and shortening. Place flour in large bowl. Make hole in middle of flour. Cream sugar and shortening; add eggs, milk and flavoring. Pour into hole made in flour. Work in flour until dough is very stiff. Use hands. Put some flour on countertop or pastry sheet. Roll out dough and cut or pinch off small amount and pat flat with hand and place on cookie sheet sprayed with vegetable oil. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes. My children always wanted the last ones baked because toward the end the cookies got to be bigger.
