UPSIDE-DOWN BERRY PIE

2 egg whites
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1/4 c. sugar
3 c. fresh strawberries
1/2 c. sugar
3 Tbsp. cornstarch
1 c. whipping cream
Sliced strawberries

Prepare crust for single 9 inch pie shell. Bake and cool.

For meringue, beat egg whites, vanilla and cream of tartar till soft
peaks form, adding 1/4 cup sugar, a little at a time. Spread on
bottom and sides of pastry. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 minutes. Cool.
Mash berries; add enough water to make 2 cups. Combine 1/2 cup
sugar and corn starch; add berries. Cook and stir till bubbly.
Cook and stir 2 minutes more. Cool and spread over meringue. Chill.

Whip cream; spread over pie and decorate top with sliced berries.
Cover and chill.
