DON'S YEAST ROLLS

1 1/2 c. water
1 1/2 c. milk
6 Tbsp. sugar
6 Tbsp. shortening (Crisco or
bacon grease)
2 pkg. dry yeast
6 1/2 c. self-rising flour

Put water, milk, sugar and shortening in saucepan. Heat
until shortening melts and sugar dissolves. Set aside until
lukewarm, then take 1/2 cup of liquid and dissolve yeast in it.
Pour liquid and yeast mixture into large bowl. Stir in flour.
Mix well. Cover with wet cloth and set in warm place until
double in size. Stir down and let rise again. Roll out dough
like biscuits except a little thicker. Put in greased pan and
let rise, about 45 minutes. Preheat oven to 400 degrees and bake
until brown. Take rolls out. Brush tops with butter. Makes 3
or 4 dozen.
