RICE KRISPIES MARSHMALLOW TREATS

6 to 10 oz. regular
marshmallows (about 40) or
4 c. miniature marshmallows
1/4 c. butter or margarine
5 c. Kellogg's Rice Krispies

Melt butter in 3 quart saucepan. Add marshmallows and
cook over low heat, stirring constantly until marshmallows are
melted and mixture is syrupy. Remove from heat. Add Rice
Krispies and stir until well coated. Press warm mixture evenly
and firmly into buttered 13 x 9-inch pan. Cut into squares and
cool. Yield: 24 (2 inch) squares.
Variations:
Choco-Scotch Bars: Follow directions for making Rice
Krispies marshmallow treats except, when melted marshmallow
mixture is removed from heat, stir in 1/4 cup peanut butter
before adding Rice Krispies. After spreading mixture in pan,
melt together in small heavy saucepan over low heat 1 cup (6
ounce package) semi-sweet chocolate morsels and 1 cup (6 ounce
package) butterscotch morsels, stirring until well blended.
Remove from heat; spread evenly over Rice Krispies. Cool
until firm. Cut into bars. Yield: 48 (2 x 1 inch) bars.
Chocolate Treats: Melt 2 squares (2 ounces) unsweetened
chocolate with the marshmallows.
Spice Treats: Stir 1 teaspoon cinnamon or 1/4 teaspoon
ginger into marshmallow mixture before adding Rice Krispies.
Date or Raisin Treats: Add 1 cup cut dates or raisins
with Rice Krispies.
Peppermint Candy Treats: Add 1/2 cup crushed peppermint
sticky candy with the Rice Krispies. For variety, use other
flavored stick candy.
