ETHYL'S SUGAR COOKIES

3/4 c. soft shortening (part
butter)
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
lemon juice (optional)

Mix shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla thoroughly.
Sift remaining ingredients together and stir in mixture. Chill
at least one hour. Roll out 1/8-inch thick. Cut into desired
shapes. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Sprinkle with sugar,
if desired. Bake until delicately golden. Temperature: 400 degrees,
time 6 to 8 minutes, amount approximately 4 dozen 3-inch
cookies.
